Services Offered

  • Advocacy
    • Advocacy services are available to assist people with disabilities in the resolution of concerns and conflicts that affect their ability to live independently. Current legislation and regulations are explained by staff; alleged discrimination claims are investigated; consumers are provided with information regarding the eligibility process for public services and benefits and assistance is offered with the completion of complex applications for such benefits.

  • Computer Training/Assistive Technology
    • Provides services related to assistive technology (AT), which encompasses any equipment, devices, or structural modifications that enhance the ability of people with disabilities to live independently. Individual assistance is provided for consumers, who need help with researching various assistive technology options, identifying potential funding sources for acquisition, obtaining professional assessments, and using and maintaining equipment. A computer lab with several adapted systems and internet access is also available for client use.

  • Daily Living Skills/Independent Living Skills Training
    • Independent living skills training is offered to enhance the ability of people with disabilities to manage their everyday lives. Instruction is provided in small group settings or on an individual basis and covers topics such as time and money management, housekeeping, meal planning and shopping, and personal care.

  • Housing Services
    • Aids home-seekers with the acquisition of housing that meets their specific shelter needs. A housing registry is available that includes listings of accessible and affordable apartments, rooms for rent, and board and care facilities. Referrals are provided upon request. Consumers are also assisted with information regarding rental subsidy programs and standards and resources for structural modifications. When funding is available, financial aid is offered to avert eviction or to cover a portion of move-in costs for clients, who face homelessness.

  • Information and Referral
    • Collects and disseminates information regarding activities, products, and services that may be of particular benefit to persons with disabilities.

  • Support Groups
    • Provides peer counseling to offer support and expert advice for clients and their families as they address disability-related problems and issues. Qualified staff and volunteers work with consumers on an individual basis and several support groups are coordinated by the agency. Peer counselors share information, personal experiences and adaptive techniques that they have found useful in their adjustment to disability.

  • Employment/Job Training
    • Staff of job developers provides assistance in job development and works with individuals with disabilities, assistive technology, employer incentives such as OJT, WOTC, welfare-to-work programs and much more.

  • Transportation Services
    • Provides customized trip planning assistance for riders; companion and personalized travel training for new riders who are apprehensive or have special needs, and acts as a centralized transportation resource for Orange County

  • Information and Referral
    • Provides referrals to aging programs.

  • Travel/Orientation and Mobility
    • Offers O&M training.

  • Braille and Reading Instruction
    • Offers braille instruction.

  • In-Home Services
    • Offers family/caregiver services.
