Marjie Wood is a Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS). She started her career in Orientation and Mobility at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. For the past 34 years, Ms Wood has taught in Austin ISD as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist with three of those years as a dually certified TVI/O&M for their center-based Program for Infants and Toddlers with Visual Impairments.

Ever since her first O&M position at the Texas School for the Blind, Marjie has realized the importance the role the parent plays in a student’s life. She has worked with adults and children who are blind and visually impaired from birth to 22, ranging from severe multiple impairments to college-bound. For many years, the majority of her time was working with babies and toddlers, both as a TVI and O&M Specialist.

Her current students are of all ages and abilities and her motto has always been, “the sky’s the limit!” Her philosophy is that there’s a fine line between limiting a child through lowered expectations and frustrating a child. We have to find that line and give the children the skills to become the most independent they can be!

FamilyConnect is delighted to make Marjie Wood’s expertise available to parents via the Orientation and Mobility Forum.
