Lauren J. Lieberman
Lauren J. Lieberman is currently a professor at the State University of New York at Brockport in the area of Adapted Physical Education. She is also the undergraduate coordinator of the Adapted Physical Education concentration and Director of Camp Abilities: a developmental sports camp for children with visual impairments. She received her master’s in special physical education from the University of Wisconsin at Lacrosse and her doctorate from Oregon State University in Human Performance. Before attending graduate school, Lauren taught in the Deafblind program at the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, MA.
Lauren’s areas of research include inclusion strategies and physical activity for youth with sensory impairments. She has written several books and numerous articles in these areas. Due to an amazing staff in the grants office she has been awarded over $4,359,829 in external grants for Camp Abilities. Lauren lectures extensively in this country and overseas. She has received several awards to recognize her accomplishments in scholarship, including a Service Award from Academic Affairs for her efforts regarding grants and research in 2002, the SUNY Chancellors Award for Scholarship in 2003, and the Chancellors Award for Scholarship and Creative Activities in 2005. Lauren is past chair for the Adapted Physical Activity Council, which with her leadership received the Outstanding Council Award.
