Each year, your child is getting more independent in caring for her needs. You don’t have to be right there with her as she takes care of her personal needs for bathing, dressing, and hair care. She still may need some instruction from you and others, and we’re here to provide you with ideas on how you can best support her continued growth in this area. If your child is a girl, as she nears the teenage years, she’ll have to prepare for her first menstrual cycle—a big event for both of you! As a person with a visual impairment, she’ll need guidance and preparation to successfully navigate this entrance into womanhood.

In this section, we provide support for this developmental stage as well as other resources to help you with your child who is blind or visually impaired.
